Secluded Luxury Cabin on a Fishing Pond

*PLEASE READ INFO BELOW RE WINTER VISITS! Luxurious, secluded cabin nestled in the woods on the shore of a beautiful private fishing pond with bass, bluegill, and catfish. Minutes from Oglebay Park and close to the city of Wheeling - but a private and unique in-the-woods experience. Wake to the sunlight and birdsongs, fish the pond, walk the trails, and browse the library. This place has everything you need and nothing you don't. Please read the many very positive reviews we've accumulated!

This hand-built cabin is accessible by a wilderness trail about a third of a mile long, but it has electricity, plumbing, hot water, comfy mattresses, a wood-burning stove, gas cooktop, refrigerator, washer/dryer, microwave, and Keurig. It'll sleep six in beds or up to eight with an air mattress we can supply. The covered front porch overlooking the pond is where you'll spend a lot of time. It has comfortable seating, a table and a terrific view. Please do not go out on the ice if the pond should partially freeze in winter, or allow kids or pets to do so. That's dangerous! This cabin features a lofted master bedroom, reached by a ship's-style ladder (see photos), and 2 first floor bedrooms (one with bunks, the other a double bed), full bathroom, living room, kitchen, and spacious porch.

The pond has a dock, boat, two kayaks, and is stocked with fish to catch. The setting is extremely private, with about 50 acres of forested trails at your doorstep. We are dog friendly -- there are no fenced areas at the cabin though. You are most welcome to bring your dogs as long as you keep track of them and clean up after them. If they like swimming, it's a thin slice of heaven for them here.

If you need more bedrooms and space but still want the country feeling, check out the main house on the property at this link: We also have a tinyhouse on property in a beautiful former horse pasture that can accommodate additional guests and which, unlike the cabin, is equipped with WiFi! You'll have full access to the cabin and surroundings.

GUESTS PLEASE NOTE: There is a steep and bumpy gravel road to the cabin. While during good weather conditions, this road can be traversed by smaller cars, we strongly advise guests to use a 4WD or AWD vehicle with some ground clearance. You don't want to get stuck!

Larger groups keep in mind we have an estate house and a tinyhouse in other areas of the same large farm. Add bookings at those facilities until everyone you want to have there, is there. Cabin guests have priority use of the pond and if you desire we will warn off guests from the main house or tinyhouse from using it during your stay. But you are of course welcome to share -- we have had mostly very friendly family oriented groups across all the accommodations.

We can usually arrange for someone to meet you on check-in and get you settled in if you'd like - otherwise we'll be around for anything you need but we'll give you plenty of peace and quiet. We're in a rural area but not far from Wheeling -- fifteen minutes from I-70 exits - and just minutes away from Oglebay Park with its huge slate of year-round events, public pools, golf courses, amenities and restaurants.

A car is a necessity to get around here. Ample parking is available at the main house. West Virginia does have Uber now, but you would want to arrange one in advance to be sure of its timely arrival at our place.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: 4WD/AWD is a *must* to get to the cabin if there is snow or ice. The parking area is still about 150' away so please be prepared for that. It's very important to remember to **check in in daylight** as we cannot staff check in to all hours and it could be challenging or even dangerous to try to find it for the first time in the dark. If you don't have the right vehicle or don't want to risk it you can hike from the main driveway to the cabin but you need to be ready for that -- about a 1/3 of a mile hike. Significant snows are fairly rare here but the cabin is remote and we want people to be prepared! On the flip side, it is absurdly beautiful out there in the snow!

Also: the cabin is a great space for families but it is not at all child-proof -- we have little ones of our own and they require close supervision always, but in particular around the ladder, the woodstove when in use, and of course, the open water of the pond. Please be very mindful of small kids! Please request high chair and pack n' play if you need them we don't keep extra stuff in the cabin if you won't need it.
